Sky Box Auto Standby

December 27, 2008

In the interest of saving the planet Sky has decided to add  “Auto Standby” to the latest software update. This puts your box onto standby if you don’t use the remote between 11.00pm and 4.00am.

You’ll be pleased to know that the function can be disabled thus:

press the services button, select option 5 and change “auto standby” from on to off.

Well my box started going into standby during the day and I thought there must be something wrong till I did a net search.

If you switch it off you must be aware that they can send you an update with it enabled again. You must check that option every day!

It is the only example I know of where a company has deliberately sabotaged their own product or service!

That;’s interesting, if the standby is between 11.00 p.m. and 4.00 a.m. can you explain why ours go off during the day if we don’t have the television on?

Hi Rosie, your not the only person with this as a problem. I think that the problem is probabley the internal clock in the Sky box getting out of sinc with real time. As far as I can find out there’s not a lot you can do about it. If it’s a problem then turn the AutoStandby off.

Got something to say?
